Anything But Boring

When I was in high school, I grew bored with Christianity. Like many teenagers, I found that Christianity was “old fashioned, boring, and out of touch with reality.” So I started to look for “fun” outside of its teachings. Although I thought my life had become a lot more exciting, it also became a lot more complicated and wrought with some painful lessons.

Of course, I thought I was living the high life (not like those “Christian prudes”), but in truth, my life lacked certainty, self-confidence, and direction. It wasn’t until I found my way back to the Christian faith that I began to feel real joy again. With the added maturity that I had gained the hard way, I found that Christianity was anything BUT boring!

So, Why do people think Christianity is boring?

Too many people get hung up on the “have tos” of Christianity instead of the “get tos.” They think church is a regimented and dogmatic institution without passion or adventure.

In truth, at its very core, Christianity is all about passion, resistance to the norm, adventure, and true grit. It’s about flying in the face of what’s acceptable in society and committing yourself fully to what is right.

If you are bored with Christianity or with God, it is likely that you’re not close enough to the action. You are not living at cause in Christ. Christianity is not dull; it is all about living life to its fullest. It’s about truth and relevance. If you let it, it will transform your life forever! Even Jesus himself said he came so that we “may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
