Your Daily Dose of Boldness – Grace Freely Given, Not Earned

Grace Freely Given, Not Earned

Romans chapter 5 verse 6 states, … “While we were still powerless…” This makes it clear that there is nothing we can do, nothing we can say to earn God’s favor. Salvation is something freely supplied by God through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross, burial, and resurrection. Verse 8 goes on to highlight this principle by saying, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:6-8

God’s unmerited favor is truly undeserved.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:23-26

This is GRACE – God choses to extend salvation to those who do not deserve it, those who are in Christ.

Paul gives testimony to God’s grace in 1 Timothy 1:13-14 when he says, “Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”

Paul states that Grace came undeserved. He was a blasphemer, persecutor & violent man. We know from his own personal story that he was responsible for the deaths of many Christians before he came to know Christ. It was nothing that he had done. It was undeserved. It was something poured out on him abundantly. It was GRACE!

Have you accepted God’s offer of grace in your life?
