Jesus Is Light
John 1:4 states, “In him was life and that life was the light of all mankind…” This life is the light of men, speaking of spiritual light as well as natural light. It isn’t that the Word “contains” life and light; He is life and light.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
In the following verse, Jn 1:5, “The light sines in the darkness, …” Darkness is always a metaphor for sin. It indicates separation from God. Jesus the Light came to change this. He came to bring Salvation.
Also in verse 5 is the statement, “…and the darkness did not overcome it.” This is another way to translate the phrase, “did not comprehend it.” The light cannot lose against the darkness; the darkness will never overcome it.
Matthew 4:16 – the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”
John 3:19 – This, then, is the judgment: The light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil.
John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 9:5 – While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 12:36 – Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
John 12:46 – I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
Acts 26:23 – that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”
2 Corinthians 4:6 – For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
1 John 1:5 – This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Are you walking in the light? It only takes one step to leave the darkness and move into His Light!
