Overflowing with Hope?
Are you overflowing with hope? This world can seriously overwhelm us, but our hope must be in the Lord. This is not news to the Bible believing Christian but there are times we all need a reminder!
In 1 Samuel 2 Hannah offers her praise to the Lord from a grateful heart overflowing with hope! Yet, her circumstances might seem contrary to the praise that she is giving to God, why is she full of hope? In 1 Samuel Chapter 1 we meet Hannah who is barren and in despair, she goes to the temple steps weeps bitterly, and expresses her deep anguish to the Lord through prayer. She also makes a vow to the God that if He would give her a son, she would give him back to the Lord to serve Him all his days. At the end of chapter 1 we see that God answered Hannah’s prayer and did indeed give her a son, once weaned she and her husband take Samuel to the temple so that he can serve the Lord in the temple and out of this moment we are given this glimpse into the heart of Hannah as she worships the Lord.
God grants Hannah’s prayer for a son, and she follows through on her vow to the Lord, this would have been a difficult time for this mom to give up the son that she had yearned for with all of her heart!
Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is lifted up by the LORD. My mouth boasts over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you! And there is no Rock like our God.”
1 Samuel 2:1-2
In the midst of a difficult situation praise sets our hearts right before a holy God. Don’t allow the difficulties of this world to take claim of your focus but trust in Him who holds your future and planned your salvation!
But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
MAY THE GOD OF HOPE FILL YOU WITH ALL JOY AND PEACE AS YOU TRUST IN HIM, SO THAT YOU MAY OVERFLOW WITH HOPE BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
