Raised with Christ and Seated in Heaven for Eternity
In John 3 Nicodemus struggled with the concept of physical vs spiritual resurrection. Jesus told him in John 3:3 that, “No one can see the kingdom of heaven unless they are born again.” Nicodemus replied, how is this possible, “ “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”
Jesus’ response to Nicodemus from John 3:5-8 – “Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’”
Being born of water is the physical birth. Being born of the Spirit is our spiritual birth. Not only do we experience a physical resurrection upon our physical death, we also experience a spiritual resurrection upon our spiritual death. THIS SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION TAKES PLACE WHEN WE ACCEPT CHRIST AS LORD AND SAVIOR. When we are, “In Christ!”
But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. – Romans 8:10-11
Because the Holy Spirit is given to each believer when they are born again, every Christian has within themselves a principle higher and more powerful than the flesh. In other words, even though I am still living in this body I can begin to experience victory over my flesh. I don’t have to live subject to my flesh anymore. I can begin to live in victory over the flesh, because of that same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, makes me alive in Him.
“SINCE THEN, YOU HAVE BEEN RAISED WITH CHRIST, SET YOUR HEARTS ON THINGS ABOVE, WHERE CHRIST IS, SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD.”
