“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith-more than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire-may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:6-7
If you are like me, rejoicing is the last thing on your mind in the midst of a trial! Trials can be difficult to detect since they can come at us from so many different directions and can strike like a tornado with little to no warning leaving an aftermath of destruction! Often, before or after a time of ministry is when these trials come and are aimed at shaking us to our core. The Word of God and prayer will lead us through this difficult time and break the cycle of confusion and frustration that can accompany these trials. Reaching out to a church leader, or a friend who you can trust to come alongside you and encourage you through.
Remember that a trial has a purpose, to test your faith, once tested your faith will grow into perseverance which will deepen your dependance upon the Lord.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
Here in James again we are encouraged to consider it pure joy in the trials that we will face, this is confirmation that there is a purpose in the trials that we face. The purpose is to become mature and complete in the Lord through persevering through the trials. This reminds me of watching a butterfly emerging from their cocoon, it is difficult to watch because they struggle for quite a while to shed that cocoon and you may even feel tempted to assist them in their trial to escape but if you do the butterfly will not develop correctly and may never fly. It is in the struggle to free itself from the cocoon that presses the fluid from its body into the butterfly’s wings so that it will be able to fly.
What will the trials in your life produce? Continue to persevere to make it through to the other side of each trial and strengthen your faith, never give up!
BUT THE LORD IS FAITHFUL, AND HE WILL STRENGTHEN YOU AND PROTECT YOU FROM THE EVIL ONE.
