“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus
This world is not a peace filled place, on the contrary, it is full of anger, confusion, chaos, and trouble! Each of us with the propensity to get caught up in the “trouble” that is swirling around us, but Jesus says, “Take heart!” Those two words from my savior are a call to action, in business a call to action is necessary to motivate others to move toward a positive outcome. Take heart, be courageous, or walk in boldness.
Another stand out in John 16:33 is, “…in Me you may have peace,” Jesus is telling us the source of peace is IN Him! Our Savior is telling us the secret to having peace in a world that is truly void of peace is to remain in Jesus and follow Him! This is a great point to bookmark in your memory that when you are without peace you are not abiding in Jesus.
When you meditate on this verse in John 16, Jesus isn’t mincing words or trying to fluff up reality, He lays it out… “In this world you will have trouble.” If you stop there you would be discouraged, but Jesus lovingly continues to explain that He has “overcome the world!” Notice this is not a future tense but past tense, it is a done deal, Jesus wins! In John 16:32 Jesus was predicting His arrest and His death on the cross to His disciples. But the disciples didn’t remember or understand these words, they believed that all was lost at Jesus death on the cross, they withdrew behind closed doors as if all hope was lost but God’s plan of redemption was in motion. The redemption of the world was at hand, there is overwhelming peace in the fact that Jesus encourages His disciples ahead of time even though they didn’t realize it until after His resurrection. We can trust in Jesus to bring us through any trouble as we abide and walk with Him.
Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Jesus!
“PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE YOU. I DO NOT GIVE TO YOU AS THE WORLD GIVES. DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED AND DO NOT BE AFRAID.”
