When you look at the gravestone it isn’t the birth date or the date of death that matters it is that small dash that speaks volumes of who you are. What is my purpose here? This is a question we hear often and the topic of many books. There are many that have an opinion on the purpose of this life, but if you are a follower of Christ your purpose is clearly spoken of in the Bible.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
This verse clearly pronounces that you and I are God’s workmanship, His masterpiece. You are not a mistake; you have been created to do good works. This is not about earning our salvation, but these good works are a natural response of love for our Savior.
You may be asking what those good works are? Before Jesus ascension to heaven after He had risen from the dead, He gave us the Great Commission:
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
So, what should our main emphasis be in our “dash”? Sharing the good news of Jesus and making disciples is not restricted to just foreign missions but to our everyday encounters. Our neighbors, coworkers, family, and anyone we come across in our day to day lives.
Are you searching for purpose in your life? Pray that the Lord will make you Bold for Jesus and provide you a way to let your light shine in the community you live and work in.
IN THE SAME WAY, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE OTHERS, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD DEEDS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.
