Treasures in Heaven
Have you ever found yourself a little envious over a neighbor’s new car, boat or RV? There are times we can slip into that desire for treasures here on earth. So many are caught up with the lives of the rich and famous and their big houses and other earthly treasures but the Bible is clear, none of these things will last!
The message is don’t allow your heart to be so overcome with desire for the latest and greatest material items but to lay up treasures in heaven. In David Guzik’s commentary he shared a survey from 1992, “people were asked how much money they would need to make to have “the American dream.” Those who earn $25,000 or less a year thought they would need around $54,000. Those in the $100,000 annual income bracket said that they could buy the dream for an average of $192,000 a year. These figures indicate that we typically think we would have to have double our income in order to find the good life.”
When you consider that the streets of heaven are paved with gold and there are jewels on the gates what might treasures in heaven be? I believe the greatest treasures in heaven are the people.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
This verse speaks volumes of your value to God. Jesus charged every believer with sharing the Good News (Mark 16:14-18) as He ascended to heaven.
Let’s add to the treasure of heaven and bring as many with us as possible!
“DO NOT STORE UP FOR YOURSELVES TREASURES ON EARTH, WHERE MOTHS AND VERMIN DESTROY, AND WHERE THIEVES BREAK IN AND STEAL. BUT STORE UP FOR YOURSELVES TREASURES IN HEAVEN, WHERE MOTHS AND VERMIN DO NOT DESTROY, AND WHERE THIEVES DO NOT BREAK IN AND STEAL. FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO.”
