One of the Scriptures that hangs by my desk as a daily reminder is…
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the LORD, not for man.”
How can we live this out as Believers in our workplace? This verse in Colossians is a great sentiment but how do we apply it in a world full of demands, disappointments, and let’s face it whether you are the boss or an employee this verse can apply to all. Here are some great applications for each of us as we work ‘for the LORD.’
Work with all your heart
There are some workers that are just there to collect a paycheck and will only do the bare minimum to get by. While all of us have bills to pay that should not be our motivation. But working with all your heart is the instruction, what does that mean? You give your very best and when you begin to allow your feelings to get the best of you, you pray for a change of heart. Don’t react, pray! Keeping your focus pure, which is why you will find Scripture posted on my desk, so that I am focusing my heart to give my all.
Work for the LORD, not man
We are working to bring Him glory. When you are a Christian, you are an ambassador of Christ so all that you do is a reflection of your Savior, or it should be. Ambassador is defined as, “a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the resident representative of his or her own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. Each of us are on assignment here, this is not our home (Hebrews 13:14-16).
This Scripture applies to our lives in every aspect whether as a boss, worker, spouse, parent, in ministry, or even as a friend! We should be giving our all as unto the Lord, not for the praises or approval of man! Colossians 3:23 should be our prayer on a daily. It is quite a challenge. I pray that you are able to work with all your heart as working for the Lord today!
WHATEVER YOU DO, WORK AT IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AS WORKING FOR THE LORD, NOT FOR MAN, SINCE YOU KNOW YOU WILL RECEIVE AN INHERITANCE FROM THE LORD AS A REWARD. IT IS THE LORD CHRIST YOU ARE SERVING.
