“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
In this verse, James encourages us to draw near to God, and promises that if we do so, God will in turn draw near to us. However, he also reminds us that we need to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts in order to approach God.
This means that we need to take a step back and examine our heart condition and identify any areas in which we have sinned or fallen short. We need to confess our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness. Allow the Holy Spirit to prompt us to change and turn away from sin. But cleansing our hands and purifying our hearts isn’t just about avoiding sin; it’s also about seeking after God with our whole hearts. Spending time in prayer, worship, and studying God’s Word are all ways to seek after God. Cultivating that deep and intimate relationship with God.
When we draw near to God in this way, He promises to draw near to us. We can experience His presence and guidance in our lives, and He will reveal His plans and purposes for us. We will find peace and joy in His presence, and our lives will be transformed.
James 4:8 is a powerful reminder of the importance of drawing near to God with a pure heart and a single-minded focus on seeking His presence. Let us heed this call to action and seek Him with all our hearts, knowing that He will draw near to us and transform our lives.
BUT SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU AS WELL.
