Certainty Through Doubt
Did you know that doubting is actually a significant stepping stone to faith? I know it sounds a little odd, but the Bible is filled with famous doubters who were God’s most faithful servants. Abraham and Sarah, the apostles Thomas, Jonah, Martha, and Moses, to name a few.
It’s important to understand that doubt does not disqualify you from being a Christian and in many cases, can bolster your faith if you channel it correctly. As Christian minister Lynn Anderson once said, “A faith that’s challenged by adversity or tough questions . . . is often a stronger faith in the end.”
Even Jesus encourages us to put His teachings to the test. In John 7:17, Jesus says, “If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” Jesus says that if we choose his will, the results will speak for themselves. That’s strong!
Sadly, many of us will never take Jesus up on His challenge. Even though we can know by experience that Jesus is from God, that His teachings are real, and that He really is who He claimed to be, we will never put it to the test.
I encourage you to call Jesus out. To put his will to the test, and to not fear or feel embarrassed about your doubts. Use them as a catalyst to search harder for God’s truth and take Jesus up on his challenge to truly understand Him.
ANYONE WHO CHOOSES TO DO THE WILL OF GOD WILL FIND OUT WHETHER MY TEACHING COMES FROM GOD OR WHETHER I SPEAK ON MY OWN.
