Fighting With God?
Many of us fight with God. Of course, we call it a
“conversation,” but when we strip away the euphemisms, it’s
merely a battle of wills—our desires pitted against God’s divine
As the American Poet, James Johnson once wrote, “Young
man, young man, your arm’s too short to box with God.”
When you think about it, the fight is one-sided. God’s will is
eternal and unchanging and although we may keep swinging,
the divine plan will stay its course.
I believe God welcomes the struggle. He understands the battle
and loves us despite it. His ultimate hope is that we’ll grow tired
and wiser in the process. When the blood, sweat, and tears are
over, we’ll be able to see the light, because sometimes only the
darkness can make God’s presence in our lives brighter!
