In a Toxic World…
Is it just me, or is it getting a tad bit too toxic out there!
No matter what news program you listen to, someone is pointing the finger, laying the blame, and calling names. It’s enough to drive you… well, hopefully to church!
I believe that now is the time we need to embrace our Christianity and our civility and stop hurling insults at those who don’t always agree with us. Now is the time to honor one another.
The key to this topic is in Romans 12:10 (NIV), where Paul says, “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
Now, I realize that it is hard to do, right? Especially when your brother is supporting that “socialist” or that “liar” or that “braggart”. It’s hard to wrap your head around the word “honor” when you can’t fathom their political leanings or beliefs. But that is precisely what God wants you to do. That is also why being a Christian is no walk in the park and why many people don’t do it on a regular basis. It’s hard to love and honor others above yourself. Yet, it’s the only way you can truly lead others to the Gospel. You can’t strong-arm them there.
In the book of Titus, Paul talks about how to “make the gospel attractive.” When we treat people with dignity, love, and honor we make the Gospel attractive. It’s not through one-up-manship or blunt force.
During this turbulent, and at times, downright toxic environment, I encourage you to make the Gospel of God attractive by honoring each other. Pray for them, yourself, and our country, which needs the Gospel of God more right now than ever!
BE DEVOTED TO ONE ANOTHER IN BROTHERLY LOVE. HONOR ONE ANOTHER ABOVE YOURSELVES.
