Knowing Christ
In Philippians Chapter 3 the Apostle Paul cautions his readers about putting confidence in earthly endeavors – “…do not put confidence in the flesh” -Phil 3:3b. He goes on to enumerate the accomplishments that he once looked to with pride.
Like many people do today, Paul once thought that his standing before God was based on his accomplishments. He wrongly believed his good works would earn him favor with God. He attempted to work his way to heaven.
Paul finally came to learn that his righteousness was not based on his works but on a relationship with Jesus through faith in Him. Paul explains that nothing is more important than the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus.
“But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith.” Philippians 3:7-9
Our righteousness, our ability to stand before God is based solely upon our faith in Jesus Christ. On knowing Him. Why not exercise that faith today? Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, come into your life and be your Lord and Savior. Know Him in a personal way today!
