The Reluctant Leader
The LORD looked at him and said, “Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?”
He said to Him, “O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”
But the LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat Midian as one man.”
Judges 6:14-16
Gideon was sent by God to lead Israel to victory…yet, he couldn’t get past his feelings of inadequacy. He spewed excuses to God as to why God had chosen the wrong person. Gideon was so busy looking at himself that he missed the fact that God was going to give him the victory. But in obedience, he gathered an army of 32,000 men to fight against the enemy. The Lord quickly began to chip away at that army until Gideon only had 300 men. This seemed like impossible odds, everything seemed to be against them but God! God wants us to trust in Him not in men. He desires for us to keep our focus on Him alone. God would achieve the victory and receive the glory, not man.
When everything seems to be stacked against you, that does not mean that God has abandoned you. Fix your eyes on Him and know that you are in the hand of the mighty God, and nothing is impossible for Him. Are you in a situation that seems impossible? Turn to the Lord and keep your eyes fixed on Him!
