Truth & Integrity
Truth and integrity are important attributes for Believers to exhibit. We are called to live lives of truth and integrity. In fact, Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Living a life of truth means being honest with ourselves, with others, and most importantly, with God.
In Proverbs 12:22, we read, “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” This verse reminds us that God values truthfulness and honesty, and that lying and deceit are displeasing to Him. In order to live a life of truth, we must be willing to speak the truth, even when it may be difficult or uncomfortable.
In Ephesians 4:25, Paul urges us to “put off falsehood and speak truthfully to our neighbors, for we are all members of one body.” As Christians, we are called to live in community with one another, and being truthful with one another is an essential part of building and maintaining healthy relationships.
In addition to being truthful with others, we must also be truthful with ourselves. In Psalm 139:23-24, the psalmist prays, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” This prayer is a reminder that we must be willing to examine our own hearts and motives, and to confess any areas where we may be falling short of God’s standard of truthfulness.
Ultimately, our commitment to truthfulness should flow from our love for God and our desire to please Him. In John 8:31-32, Jesus tells His followers, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” As we commit ourselves to following Christ and His teachings, we will be empowered to live lives of truth and integrity, free from the bondage of lies and deceit.
So let us strive to be people of truth, speaking honestly with others and with ourselves, and committing ourselves to following Christ and His teachings. May we be pleasing to God in all that we say and do, and may His truth be evident in our lives for all to see.
IN THE SAME WAY, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE BEFORE OTHERS, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD DEEDS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.
