What is Up with Sunday?
When was the last time you kept the Sabbath? I mean REALLY kept the Sabbath? When was the last time you slowed down to unwind, rest, reflect, refocus, and rebuild your relationship with and around God?
I’m asking because I’m just as guilty as the next person. My Sunday is often a harried run from my Sunday morning He’s The Solution service to my local church where I play in the band, and Jaclyn sings in the church choir. We then often have family gatherings or church meetings to attend afterward. Often Sunday is also the only day of the week we can get our weekly shopping in. Our Sundays often resemble our weekdays where we have multiple meetings and multiple tasks to complete. We fall into bed Sunday evenings just as tired as we do Monday-Saturday. Sound familiar? In our busy, multi-tasking lifestyles, it takes time, effort, and scheduled planning to take a day of rest!
God created the fourth commandment not because he was being legalistic and just wanted to give us one more rule. Instead, he had a deep understanding that our bodies and minds desperately needed a respite from the workweek. It’s not just another “law,” but sound advice to keep us healthy and sane. It would do us all a bit of good to slow down on the Sabbath and breathe in God’s blessings and bounty. Imagine how kinder, wiser, and more thoughtful we would be if we had the rest necessary to reflect and be grateful.
THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH.
