Who is Your Emergency Contact?
The other day I was filling out a medical form and it asked me who my emergency contact was. We all have emergency contact people—usually, they are a spouse, a family member, a friend, or a neighbor. I put down my wife, Jaclyn, with my parents as close backups. Who I really should have written down is God. Although I depend on Jaclyn for a great many things, there is no other more worthy contender for the role as emergency contact than God.
Most of us know this… even the non-praying types. When faced with dire or dangerous situations, we often call on Him for help. If we want something desperately, we usually say a quick and pleading prayer under our breaths. And when we are beyond sad, depressed and beaten down, many of us fall on our knees hoping for release.
However, God is there for all emergencies. Not just the big and frightening ones, but also the small and seemingly insignificant ones. When we only depend on God for the big stuff and try to take care of the small stuff by ourselves, we often find that the small stuff eventually tends to morph into the big stuff and we have to call on God anyway, right?
As we walk through this life, we’re sure to encounter both small and big emergencies. I wanted to give you this little resource that God set up for you. It’s His “Emergency Numbers” for whatever ails you.
I encourage you to print it out and hang it on your fridge, your bathroom mirror, and/or near your computer. When you feel at a loss, reference these numbers, and know that God has your back regardless of the circumstances. May God bless you and keep you safe this year and always.
THEN THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO ME.
