This is the message Jaclyn and I say to our children every day, “You are loved!” It’s the most beautiful message anyone could impart to another human being, but it often gets lost in the translation of our blundering human nature. We get bogged down by daily life, caught up in our misfortunes or successes and forget that we love and are loved.
This is also God’s constant and absolute message for you and me, “You are loved!”
Although the message is quite clear and concise, our human ears misread and misunderstand it. We take it when we need it most and discard it when we’re feeling our finest. We forget and overlook it, or we look at it as God’s “obligation” to us and take it for granted. Amazingly, God’s Gift survives and thrives despite our lack of attention or our constant neediness.
Why? Because God is Love and Love is “patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
